Artistraw Cider is a small producer based just outside Clifford, Herefordshire. They are nestled in the stunning landscape between the Black Mountains to the West and the river Wye to the East, not far downstream from the renowned literary town of Hay on Wye. The name comes from an old local word for a shrew, which themes the naming of their creations, and in the artwork for their labels which they design themselves.
Tom had been making cider as a hobby since his student days, and after moving to Clifford in 2017, Tom and Lydia wasted no time setting to work, using local fruit from disused orchards while they wait for their own orchard they planted to start become productive. They are heavily influenced by traditional Normandy cider and take pride in making full juice products with minimal intervention techniques. They use cold-racking to retain natural sweetness, harness natural wild yeasts, and finish ciders in the bottle, eschewing filtering, pasteurisation, force carbonation, or adding sulfites. They work with the fruit each season to make the best ciders and perries they can with what nature provides them.
Despite being a relatively new maker, Artistraw is quickly gathering acclaim. They are also proud to have been Highly Commended at the prestigious Royal Three Counties Cider and Perry Competition 2018.
