Ross on Wye's Bartestree Squash Perry is a balanced, traditional single-variety perry, with tasty pear notes and easy drinking quality. This batch was pressed in 2016, fermented with natural yeasts and allowed to mature for two full years, before being bottled in 2018.
The pears are sourced locally in the May Hill area, the birthplace of perry. The Bartestree Squash perry pear is a floral variety first recorded by the legendary Herbert Durham, believed to date back to around 1850. The few trees that remain are valued for their excellent perry.
The Johnson family have made cider and perry at Broome Farm since the 1930's and have won a plethora of awards, including BBC Food and Farming Winner 2019.
Kayleigh and Chris sampled this at Explorers HQ and found it to have a dry and crisp taste with a light floral aroma.
